Color: Triadic Design
Feb 25, 2024The base of our Meet Me in the Meadow bouquet includes a playful color palette that includes purples, greens and oranges supported by blushes and whites (including the tiny daisy-like flower heads of ever so charming feverfew).
Lavender centers transition to violet petals on ‘Fama Blue’ scabiosa (1). Ruffled salmon florets of ‘Madame Butterfly Bronze’ snapdragon (2) enhance the spirit of this bouquet. And finally ‘Emerald Tassels’ amaranth (3) provides not only a refreshing pop of lime, but also a pop of eccentric texture.
But you may be wondering, why does it work so well together?
The Meet Me in the Meadow bouquet features the hues of: purple, orange and green, which is a triadic color harmony, meaning these colors create an equilateral triangle on the color wheel.
Refresher: It just so happens that purple, orange and green are also all secondary colors as well. When 2 of the primary colors of red, yellow and blue are mixed, for example red and yellow, you get the secondary color, orange.
When working with triadic colors, you don’t have to use the most loud and saturated versions of these colors. In our example we have used the triadic base of purple-orange-green. The purple we have chosen is a blue violet to deep lavender purple. The orange is essentially a salmon color, and finally our green is much more of a lighter lime green.
Blue Violet-Salmon-Lime Green = Triadic
Other Triadic Color Harmonies include:
- Red-Yellow-Blue (our primary colors)
- Red Violet-Yellow Orange-Blue Green
It’s often advised to pick one of the 3 triadic colors to anchor your design. Essentially allowing one color to take center stage and using the other 2 colors as accents. However, this bouquet uses triadic colors in equal proportions so not only does it feel balanced, it has a youthful and playful vibrancy to it.
Personally I love the playfulness of this bouquet and the textures enhance the color palette to create a wildflower like whimsey.
